The welding robot is used by the company’s teams for projects where both welding and a high level of cleanliness are required, and when these processes are essential for production. This robot is currently being fully utilized in several different vacuum chamber projects, in various sizes and materials.
How does the robot help make production processes more efficient?
Integrating the robotic welding manipulator allows for fast and precise transitions between welds. Since external welding is conducted in relatively small sections and in opposite locations (in order to prevent heat warping as result of welding), fast transitions are required in intervals of over a meter between each weld, including turning the chamber 1800. The manipulator executes these movements quickly and with the highest precision, without having to recalibrate it at the beginning of each weld.
The robot makes the production process more efficient, as it’s able to allow for:
- Full repetition of the welding action – advancing the welding wire, the distance of the electrode to the welding cradle and its movement along the part.
- Welding without physical effort to fatigue the operator.
- Long welding without breaks.
- Welding hard-to-reach areas.
- Getting precise welding parameters, including precise currents along with the combined welding power supply.
The Dagesh Group chose the TIG welding method, providing the advantages of high-quality welding that also fits high-vacuum systems and clean welding, with excellent use of water and zero splash.
Professional welding systems
For that purpose, the company has purchased the Motoman MA2010 welding robot by YASKAWA and the 400-ampere TIG system by Fronius.
This process leaves burn residue around the welding area, so Dagesh has purchased a large ultrasonic system that allows the cleaning of large and heavy spaces (hundreds of kgs) at the highest levels, in addition to small cleaning systems for “regular” parts that only weigh dozens of kgs. The electric cleaning system removes the excess burnt material while the ultrasonic system removes particles stuck to the surface as a result of the machining, electric cleaning and human contact.
The ultrasonic system is meant for the systems of dozens of the company’s clients, combining welding, precise machining, quality cleaning and ensemble assembly.
Once Dagesh gained vast experience in welding, they decided to purchase the YASKAWA-DK 2500 manipulator, which can carry heavy ensembles of up to 2,500kg and weld while in motion.

Training
The welding robot has combined teams of assemblers and professional welders, along with quality assurers. The robot is operated by welders who go through annual dual certification by the Israeli Aerospace Industries for steel and aluminum welding, and technical instruction on operating the welding robot and choosing its optimal parameters. To conclude the professional process, the Dagesh Group has a certification test for every welder who joins the team and provides them with a certification diploma for chamber welding.
