Career path
Avi went to a professional school before arriving at Dagesh. “When I arrived at the job, I had some experience in electronic assemblies and installations, from working in my father’s business. But I didn’t have experience or technological understanding of sketches, how to calculate and see things in a technological way. Yossi was the one who took me under his wing in the beginning and taught me,” Wolf says.
Wolf’s swift career acceleration at Dagesh was due to his ability quickly and precisely understand various processes. In his first role at Dagesh, Wolf maintained 3 clean room stations in rotation, working on products from different companies at each one. Among those companies were Applied Materials, Visionik and AS Technologies.
He simultaneously helped on assemblies that didn’t require clean rooms, with external mechanical parts such as pins, supersonics, external gluing, wiring, etc. “After three months specializing in the various stations, I was asked where I wanted to be promoted within the company,” Wolf reminisces. “I chose to keep specializing in clean rooms, and started working as an assembler.”
After about six months, Wolf was promoted to a lead position in a clean room team. Wolf spent eight years fulfilling this function, during which the staff grew from 2 full-time employees to 8. At this point in his career, Wolf was also given the responsibility of serving as team lead in three of the company’s most important projects: KLA, Applied Materials and Camtek. “The common denominator among the clients I’d received was that the assemblies, gluing, calibrations, final tests and internal packaging were done in clean rooms,” Wolf explains.
Today Wolf personally and professionally manages 50 employees in the clean rooms, including 5 team leads.
Work challenges
Each time a new product goes into production in the clean rooms, Wolf consults Engineering and makes sure the sketch matches the product and that there are no mistakes. At the same time, he ensures the best people are placed in the right projects, and certifies them to complete tasks using a team lead. He makes sure the teams read the sketches correctly, understand the processes to be carried out, and know the work order of the project.
“I face a lot of interesting challenges working at Dagesh,” Wolf shares. “For instance, in recent months we’ve been working on a project to develop new products from Camtek – a leading manufacturer of inspection and metrology equipment, and a supplier of semiconductor industry software.”
Wolf also gave an example from an Applied Materials project: “We recently found a new malfunction in the assembly of a project that’s been running for several years; a leak that was supposed to be vacuum-sealed. So I talked to the head of our Engineering team, explained what needed to be done to improve the product, and asked for the appropriate sketches. The client’s engineering teams received the sketches for their approval, improved them, and we’ve already run a test on this production two weeks ago so that we can start using the improved product.”
Fun getting up in the morning
Avi Wolf loves his job, his workplace and the people who work with him. “My previous manager, Avi Franken, who currently works in Acquisitions, was a father-figure to me. His door was always open to me, for anything, he taught me a lot, helped and supported me. We’re still good friends, we talk both about work and our personal lives.
“Working at Dagesh is like being a part of a big family, everyone cooperates with one another, the work flows wonderfully, there are quality people talking to each other at eye level, throughout all echelons, there’s no sense of strict hierarchy. Every new employee gets to know the VP and CEO, and their part of the journey, without it they don’t get cleared. The owner finds it very important to get to know everyone and say hello and good morning to each and every employee, every day. He talks to you face to face, knows who you are, asks how you’re doing and takes an interest in you. The company makes sure there are team-building days, rewards for exceptional employees, makes sure everything is alright with employees professionally and personally, and if anyone needs help, everyone’s always there, happy to help.
“I personally learned a lot beyond my role, such as how to manage, how to have a systemic perspective, I’ve gained a lot of desired knowledge in the field, I’ve learned and advanced quickly,” Wolf sums up with a smile.
