Emphasizing the Team

Are you curious to see a day in the professional life of a multi-disciplinary manager at a systems manufacturing and hardware solutions company? Join Avishag Ohayon, Supply Control team leader at the Production Planning and Control Department, for a busy day at the Dagesh Group.

Sunday through Thursday, early in the morning, Avishag Ohayon shows up for work at the Dagesh Group offices in Yad Binyamin. The first thing she does is prepare herself a pampering cup of coffee. Sipping her coffee, she goes through her e-mails.

Towards 10 o’clock she summons the members of the Supply Control team for a morning meeting, where everyone shares the details of their projects and the clients assigned to them. The Supply Control team at Dagesh is at the heart of the company’s production process, and consists of six industrial engineering and management professionals who are responsible for OTD – on-time delivery – to the company’s many customers.

At the meeting they talk about production line flow, what needs close monitoring, and what has been done about faults that have been identified thus far. If they encounter complex problems, team members brainstorm and come up with possible solutions.

Throughout the day Avishag’s office serves as a site of pilgrimage for the control team. They turn to her for escalation in internal Dagesh interfaces such as: the warehouse, procurement, auditing, assemblies, manufacturing, clean rooms and more. As part of her job, she monitors all company processes in their various production process phases. When she identifies a fault, a missing item or a bottleneck, she turns to the appropriate escalation authority and finds a solution.

When the meeting is over, Avishag inspects the production floor in order to help advance processes and prevent malfunctions in items awaiting inspection and intended for assembly. To maintain maximum efficiency, she first uses internal communication channels to contact various interfaces in the company, and tries to understand why the item appears in the control report. If it is discovered that the item is defective, Avishag arranges an immediate replacement item from the warehouse for further assembly. The main objective of her work is to prevent failures and improve processes on the production floor. By delivering the material for timely production, Avishag ensures that delivery to the customer takes place on time.

Avishag then sits down for lunch. After that, she goes on to produce daily control reports using the Kitaron system. The reports allow her to “keep her finger on the pulse” regarding all of the control team’s projects. The team gathers all items that were found to be defective in the assembly or inspection process, and thus may pose a challenge for further production. Ohayon ensures that members of the Technology Committee convene from time to time to review the item reports. The Committee will decide whether each item is to be repaired, returned to the supplier, or released back into production.

In addition to her role within the Production Planning and Control Department, Avishag also handles Sales Risk Management at the Dagesh Group. Once a week, she presents the board members with a file detailing potential versus risk in the company’s sales and supply processes. She examines what faults may arise, how to avoid them based on past experience, and how the project’s potential can be realized on schedule.

Avishag’s day comes to an end at 4:30 PM as she “clears the desk,” wraps up tasks, and heads home.

Avishag has been working at the Dagesh Group for 5 years, during which she has changed roles twice. Her first job at the company was in Supply Control. A year later she was promoted to head of the Supply Control team. Today she is an esteemed multidisciplinary director, managing six supply controllers. Avishag’s team continues to grow, and recruitment has not yet been completed.
